Polar transformation
This is a naturalistic painting of a cityscape in Wellington, New Zealand, painted at a time when the artist lived in that city. This is shown for comparison with the following painting which shows the same scene after transformation of the Cartesian field into a polar field based on a family of circles having coaxial radii.

Here the scene of Wellington has been transformed into a circular polar painting, the centre of the circle being positioned in the centre of the work. The buildings are fractured to give the final painting a faceted, flat, bright appearance.
